Active build experiment: the SAFE water-refrigerant adsorption cooling demonstrator (two valved vessels under vacuum, no toxic/flammable refrigerant). Purpose is to learn leak-tight vacuum craft and fill the literature gap — fully documented, MEASURED amateur adsorption builds are rare. Protocol + blank log live in output/; results to be measured and promoted back into the DIY-adsorption-chiller reference. Safe first step before any carbon/methanol solar ice-maker.
Next action: Build the safe two-vessel zeolite/silica–water demonstrator per the protocol, populate the cooling-stroke + cycle logs, then promote results into references/diy-adsorption-chiller as a 'Measured build' section.

Why Track This
The DIY adsorption chiller reference found that fully documented, measured amateur adsorption builds are rare — the recurring stall point is holding a high vacuum. The safe water route (no toxic or flammable refrigerant) is the right first build to learn that craft and produce real data. This record keeps the build-and-measure task durable.

output/experiment-diy-adsorption-chiller-water-2026-07-02.md - Working pair: zeolite 13X (or silica gel) + distilled water — safe, deep-vacuum, ~10 °C target (no ice).
- Status: protocol written; no measurements taken yet (log cells intentionally empty).
Next Action
Build the two valved vessels, activate the sorbent, evacuate (pass a <200 µm
decay test), run the cooling stroke, log evaporator temperature vs time and over
cycles, then write a “Measured build” section into
references/diy-adsorption-chiller.md and raise its confidence.
Notes
Do not populate the log with modeled/assumed values — the point is a real measured build. The carbon/methanol solar ice-maker (build path 2) is the higher-performance but hazardous follow-on; attempt only after the safe water demonstrator succeeds.
