The generational claim
- 1st gen: research prototypes; 2nd gen: SorTech/Fahrenheit-class machines (separate evaporator/condenser vessels, large vacuum valves) — commercially marginal on cost and bulk (~SCP 246 W/kg, COP 0.48 baseline).
- 3rd gen: paired adsorber modules where evaporation and condensation occur directly at the adsorber; refrigerant managed by liquid-phase distribution. Kills the vacuum-valve cost/reliability problem and shrinks the vacuum envelope.
Corroboration
The EU RE-WITCH project (see RE-WITCH raw source) is deploying a Sorption Technologies GmbH chiller of exactly this architecture at industrial demo sites (patent DE 10 2020 129 341 A1; targets thermal COP 0.65, electric COP >20, compactness >17 kW/m³, drive 75–90 °C).
Relation to wiki
Adds the first genuine system-architecture generation shift since the wiki’s commercial-adsorption-chillers and adsorbent-bed-engineering articles were compiled.
